Transforming Health Care: The President's Health Information Technology Plan was announced today. I don't have enough perspective to know if this is any more than political window dressing, but the goals are important. Whether or not you follow healthcare, you should be very interested in whether or not your medical record is electronic in 10 years. Once that heap 'o dead tree full of chicken scratch (that is never where you need it to be when you really need it) gets digit-ized, you will get better health care. Why, you ask? Click on the link already, fer crying out loud ...

The military is actually ahead of the power curve re: electronic health records. Well, sort of. The system DoD is currently implementing still has some kinks to work out. Assuming they get worked out sooner rather than later, the private sector will be able to learn a lot of lessons from this system (CHCS II), and John Q. Public might just get his medical record on a hard drive sooner because of it.
